Location: Universidade de São Paulo, Brasil.

About Us

The University of Sao Paulo is a public teaching institution which generates most of the Brazilian scientific production. In particular, Botany Department joins research labs studying all areas of botany including anatomy, taxonomy, physiology and genomics in native plant species as well as model organisms.

Our Department also offers several courses open to the community to reinforce the flux of information between the scientific/academic environment and the general public presenting the scientific results of in a comprehensible and relevant fashion.

GaTE-USP and Eu-Sol

In a recent study, scientists have identified genomic regions in the wild tomato Solanum pennelli that control vitamin, sugars and amino acid fruit contents. Within the EU-SOL project, the GaTE-USP team are working with the aim to identify genes within these regions from the wild tomato species and characterise their function in order to select those that could be responsible for the nutritional quality, in order to ultimately improve tomato fruit.
